2nd Biennial Symposium on Traditional Ironwork

New York City

September 15-19, 2026

Our second biennial symposium will be held in New York City from September 15-19, 2026. This 4-day event will include museum visits, exclusive access tours, and meetings with experts as we explore America's premier location for Historic Ironwork. Scheduled sites include: The Metropolitan Museum of Art (& the Cloisters), The Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Columbia University, The J.P. Morgan Library, St. John the Divine Cathedral, the Vanderbilt Museum and more. See the full itinerary below. The chance to explore these sites guided by experts and accompanied by engaged colleagues will truly be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Registration

The symposium will be limited to 40 participants. Space is extremely limited. Registration will be open to qualified participants on a first come, first served basis. Registration will open March 1st, 2026. Please see the above link to complete the registration request form. HBC will confirm your registration by email and send an invoice which must be paid in full by June 1, 2026 to secure your spot.

Costs

The symposium registration fee will be $500. We strongly recommend that you also purchase lodging with your registration for an additional $450. Registration includes all museum and site admissions, a welcome dinner and happy hour, a charter bus tour of Long Island, and dinner on the final evening. Participants are responsible for travel to and from the symposium along with their own food and transportation while in NYC.

Lodging

Historic Blacksmith Conservancy has secured a block of shared rooms at HI USA New York City Hostel on the upper west side of Manhattan, convenient to our tour sites and appointments. Arrival will be on September 15, and check out on September 20th (5 nights). The lodging is $450 per person which can be booked with your symposium registration. Rooms will be shared between 3-6 people, all of whom will be part of our event. This is an extremely reasonable rate in a facility with great amenities including extensive shared common spaces—which we anticipate taking advantage of each evening as we congregate after hours. We highly encourage participants to include lodging in their registration. You may opt out of lodging if you wish. Be advised we cannot guarantee space will be available in our reservation later.

Accessibility

Some locations may not be fully accessible for those with limited mobility. Due to the nature of the urban setting and the locations of ironwork, there may be long periods of standing and walking. The use of public transit may be required

Cancellations

Cancellation will receive a full refund of the cost of registration until July 15. After this date registrations will not be refunded.
